Using this data on air and in print

GrapevinePass exists to be cited. If you put pass conditions on the air, in a push alert, or in a morning newsletter, you are welcome to use the verdicts here, with credit, exactly as they are written.

How to cite it

On air: "According to GrapevinePass, which reads the live Caltrans feeds, the Grapevine is open this morning with chain control at R1," or "GrapevinePass reports SR-58 over Tehachapi posted for high winds, with high profile vehicles restricted." In print and digital: link the corridor name to its page here, and credit conditions to Caltrans, which is the source of record.

The sentence at the top of each corridor page is written to be read aloud as is; it is the same sentence voice assistants surface through the page's Speakable markup. Verdicts refresh every two minutes; if a story is developing, refresh before you publish rather than quoting a screenshot from an hour ago.

Camera images

Camera stills are Caltrans CCTV images, served from the state feed and credited "Camera image: Caltrans" on each camera page. For broadcast or front page use, pull the image from the camera's own page here or from Caltrans QuickMap, and carry the Caltrans credit. Note the honest gaps in the network: there is no camera at the Tejon Pass summit and no camera on the Tehachapi mountain segment, and this site will never dress up a neighboring frame as a summit shot. Neither should a headline.

Storm days and the archive

On closure days the status history page is your timeline: every verdict change on both passes is logged with its Pacific time as it happens, and the storm archive assembles major events from that log. "When did it close" and "when did it reopen" are checkable facts here, not reconstruction. During a developing closure the fastest accurate path is the corridor page itself; during a slow morning, the comparison page shows both passes at once.
