Frazier Park sits in a side valley west of I-5 at about 4,600 feet, higher than Tejon Pass itself, and it takes the corridor's weather at full strength: real snow, real wind, and winter nights far colder than either end of the freeway. Its residents commute over the pass in both directions, down to Bakersfield and down to Los Angeles, and they read the Grapevine verdict the way other people read a clock.

The town is also the gateway to the Mt. Pinos country, the highest ground in the region at over 8,800 feet, which draws its own snow play and stargazing traffic up Frazier Mountain Park Road on winter weekends. That traffic mixes into the same Lebec interchange the pass uses.

Driving note

Frazier Park exits at Lebec, on the Kern County side of the summit. SR-58 and Bakersfield are 45 minutes north; Los Angeles about an hour south, pass permitting.
