Gorman is a small mountain town living in the Grapevine's weather shadow at about 3,800 feet, a few miles below the Tejon Pass summit. Its forecast is the closest city proxy for summit conditions on the whole corridor: what Gorman gets, the pass gets slightly harder, an hour earlier. Snow that misses every forecast for Los Angeles lands here several times a winter.
This is also the functional summit town for drivers: the last fuel, food, and chain buying stop before the top on the south side, and the place closure queues physically form. When the Grapevine closes, Gorman's exit ramps and frontage roads fill with waiting trucks, and the town's weather is the waiting weather.
Driving note
The summit is about 3 miles north. If you are going to chain up, the wide areas around Gorman and Lebec are where everyone does it.
